for the SUMMER SEASON!

Cleveland-After a one-year absence due to hosting the International Gay Bowling Organization National Tournament in May of last year, the Cleveland Gay and Lesbian Invitational Fellowship Tournament returns to Buckeye Lanes in North Olmsted on June 12 and 13.

Begun in 1986, GIFT will take place for the 13th time, sponsored in part this year, by Coors and Coors Light. Anywhere from 150 to 250 men and women from across North America have participated in past years, as Cleveland's GIFT is considered one of the best-run tournaments in the country.

This year's GIFT theme is "A Rainbow Wedding Here Comes the Pride."

GIFT is just one of nearly 75 bowling tournaments held annually or bi-annually throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. All tournaments, as well as the local North Coast Bowling Association, NCBAFriday, and Summit Bowling Leagues are members of the International Gay Bowling Association. IGBO is one of the largest GLBT sports organization in the world, second only to the Gay Games.

The GIFT Tournament Committee takes particular pride in the fact that over its 13-year history, nearly $8,000 has been donated to various Cleveland organizations including the Cleveland Lesbian-Gay Center, the Pride committee, Kamana House, and the AIDS Taskforce.

The weekend kicks off with a "Bachelor/ Bachelorette" registration party hosted by Code Blue on Friday evening, June 11, from 7 pm to midnight. This event is open to the public.

Bowling competition starts on Saturday, June 12. Singles and doubles will be held at Buckeye Lanes, 24488 Lorain Road in North Olmsted GIFT's home for the past ten

years from 10 am until about 3 pm.

On Saturday evening, well over 500 people are expected to join the GIFT bowlers aboard the Goodtime III for the tenth annual GIFT "Honeymoon" cruise. This 21⁄2-hour sunset cruise on the Cuyahoga River and Lake Erie is open to the public and has become one of the premier events in Northeast Ohio.

Advance tickets can be purchased for $18 at many local establishments including the Cleveland Lesbian-Gay Center. Tickets are $20 at the dock. It is advisable to get your tickets early, as the cruise has been known to sell out. We sail, regardless of the weather, promptly at 7:30 pm from the East Ninth Street Pier, behind the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

Nine groups coordinate activities through OutWatch

Youngstown OutWatch of the Youngstown area meets the second Thursday of each month at 4:15 at "the beat" coffeehouse on Lincoln Avenue on the Youngstown State University campus.

OutWatch meetings are held for the purpose of coordinating calendars and political strategies of the coalition of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning groups that exist in the greater Youngstown area.

Active participants in the coalition currently include Youngstown Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, People of All Colors Together, the YSU LGBT student group, Feminist/Womanist Perspectives, the Lesbian Coffeehouse, Out and About. Youth Pride Youngstown, Brother to Brother, and the Peace Action Council of Youngstown.

Interested individuals and groups are invited to attend the monthly meetings and to bring suggestions, activist strategies, and political concerns. For more information, contact Glorianne Leck at 330 747-8716.

On Sunday, June 13, team competition will be held at Buckeye Lanes from 11 am until about 2 pm. Although the lanes will be closed to the general public during the weekend competitions, community members are certainly welcome to come and cheer for the local bowlers. (Pom-poms are optional!)

The weekend concludes with the "Wedding Reception" awards banquet at Brennan's Party Center, complete with polkas, the Hokie-Pokie, Chicken Dance, and a tiered wedding cake.

Please come and join GIFT at Code Blue Buckeye Lanes, or on the Goodtime III as they welcome their out-of-town guests to the North Coast for GIFT '99—a proud Cleveland tradition. ♡
